HNA Aviation is continuing its onslaught into Australia. Read More » HNA subsidiary, Beijing Capital Airlines, this week inaugurated a four-weekly Qingdao-Sydney A330-200 service. It launched Shenyang-Qingdao-Melbourne last year. The airline said it is considering additional routes to Australia in 2018.

HNA Aviation has forged an alliance with Virgin Australia that covers flights between Australia, China and Hong Kong and also on flights via New Zealand and Hong Kong routes within the HNA carriers’ domestic networks.

HNA Aviation long-haul airlines include Hainan Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, Beijing Capital Airlines, Tianjin Airlines and long-haul low-cost Lucky Air. Hainan Airlines operates several Mainland-Australia routes and Hong Kong Airlines flies to Cairns and Queensland’s Gold Coast.

As part of their alliance, Virgin Australia commenced nonstop Melbourne-Hong Kong A330-200 flights in July and said it would launch its own flights to the Mainland in due course, most likely in 2018.

The HNA-Virgin Australia tie-up includes joint pricing and reciprocal frequent flyer benefits. HNA Group became a major stakeholder in Virgin Australia after Air New Zealand, frustrated with the airline’s performance, sold its stake in 2016.
