China’s OK Airways buys five B787-9s

Privately controlled Mainland carrier, OK Airways, has finalised the purchase of five B787-9s, at list prices of US$1.4 billion, the airline and the manufacturer jointly announced on Thursday. Read More » The carrier, which first flew in 2005 and briefly shut down from December 2008 for a month, serves 70 domestic destinations and several cities in Asia with 26 B737s.
OK Airways signed a preliminary agreement to purchase the Dreamliners at the Paris Air Show in June. The carrier, based near Beijing at Tianjin Binhai International Airport, also ordered eight B737MAX-10s and seven B737MAX-8s at the Paris show.
OK Airways president, Li Zongling, said in a statement this week that the B787s would strengthen the airline’s plans for expansion into the long haul market. The carrier also has hubs at Changsa Huanghua International airport and Xi’an Xianyang International Airport. Beside its hubs, it flies to 43 Chinese cities as well as four cities in Japan, including Tokyo Haneda and Osaka, Jeju, Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket, Da Nang and Denpasar.
