In Hamburg, Airbus has completed assembly of its first A321neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex). Read More » The aircraft, powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines, will undergo ground tests before its first flight in the coming weeks. First delivery of an A321neo ACF to a customer is scheduled for mid-2018.

By applying modifications to the fuselage, the ACF offers a more flexible cabin configuration for up to 240 passengers in a high-density single class configuration. The original A321 capacity was 220 passengers.

Compared with the previous A321 variant, the most visible modifications are a new rear section and a modified passenger door configuration. Also, new over-wing emergency exits in the centre section have been introduced. The A321neo ACF is an option, but will become standard for all A321neo around 2020, Airbus said. Asia-Pacific and Middle East customers for the ACF include VietJet Air and Qatar Airways.

The A321neo ACF will form the basis for the A321LR, the longer-range variant capable of flying between Australia and Asia and Europe to the U.S. on flights up to 4,000 nautical miles. This achievement is made possible by the addition of an under floor fuel tank and an increased maximum takeoff weight of 97 tonnes.
