IndiGo leases more A320ceo amid GTF delays

India’s largest airline, low-cost carrier IndiGo Airlines, has signed a lease agreement with Air Lease Corp. (ALC) for two additional A320ceo to join its fleet in the third quarter of the year. Read More » The decision follows repeated Pratt & Whitney (P&W) geared turbofan (GTF) delivery delays. The Pratt engines power the 405 A320neo IndiGo has ordered. It is the first lease deal between the airline and ALC.
IndiGo has accepted delivery of 32 of the 405 GTF-powered A320neo, but it has had to temporarily ground some of the aircraft for unscheduled, emergency engine checks. In the latest incident last Thursday, a Kolkata-bound A320neo had to return to Mumbai and perform an emergency landing after one of the GTFs stalled soon after take-off.
“IndiGo flight 6E395 enroute Mumbai-Kolkata had to return to Mumbai due to a technical glitch (oil chip in one engine) in the aircraft. All operating procedures were diligently followed by the cockpit and inflight crew. IndiGo has reported this incident to the DGCA and has also initiated an internal enquiry on the incident,” the carrier said.
