Subject to approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the sale will see Q Catering Ltd. and Snap Fresh Pty Ltd and their 1,200 employees become part of Dnata for an initial period of 10 years. Qantas said it would continue to design and develop its own menus, regardless of the Emirates Group investment.
“We’ve always said that we would explore the sale of certain assets where it makes sense, just as we’ve done before, including the sale of our catering facility in Cairns and Qantas Defence Services,” said Qantas Domestic CEO, Andrew David.
“The catering businesses will benefit significantly from Dnata’s global footprint, catering expertise and ability to drive investment and growth for a core focus of its operation.” Dnata caters for Qantas Group flights out of Adelaide, Canberra, London and Johannesburg.
The Dubai company will make significant infrastructure investments following the acquisition commencing with a new catering facility in Sydney.
