April 27th 2018
Oman Air acting CEO, Abdulaziz al-Raisi, has told Reuters the airline continues evaluating the B787 against the A350 for a new widebody order to be placed this year. Read More »
Oman Air’s current long-haul fleet comprises 10 A330s (four -200s; six -300s) and seven B787 Dreamliners (two owned -8s; two wet-leased -8s from Kenya Airways; and three -9s sourced from lessors). The state-controlled airline has four additional -8s on direct order from Boeing, with deliveries resuming from late June.
The new widebody order, whether they will be A350s or more B787s, will replace the A330 fleet by 2023.
Oman Air also announced its intention to retire its fleet of four Embraer E175 regional jets this year.
On the product front, Oman Air last week unveiled a new first class product to debut on the incoming B787s from June/July. The first class “mini-suites” have high privacy partitions, an in-suite minibar and 22-inch IFE screens. The product will be launched on the Muscat-London route from July.
In separate Oman Air updates, several Middle Eastern media have reported that acting CEO al-Raisi has been confirmed as permanent CEO, although the airline has not officially confirmed this. Al-Raisi took over as interim CEO from Paul Gregorowitsch last October.
