Emirates Airline CCO, Thierry Antinori, has told Reuters the carrier was reconsidering launching flights from its Dubai hub to Panama City, initially slated to commence in 2016 but shelved after Emirates failed to close a codeshare deal with local flag carrier, Copa Airlines. Read More »

“We are still looking at Panama. We had some conversations recently with a delegation from Panama,” Antinori said.

Emirates is also considering flights from Dubai to Mexico City, but Antinori said the city’s high altitude was pushing the performance limits of the airline’s current fleet and thus flights might only be launched following the arrival of the B777X fleet from 2020. Antinori noted that Mexico was the only country with a population of more than 100 million not yet served by Emirates.

In South America, Emirates flies to Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. The airline will launch a flight to Santiago de Chile (via Sao Paulo) in July.
