The airline – formerly known as United Eagle Airlines – has applied to fly to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and China’s “neighbouring countries”, including Nepal, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam.
Chengdu Airlines has a number of important strategic investors, including the Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China (COMAC) and Sichuan Airlines.
Because of its ties with COMAC, Chengdu Airlines is the only operator of the COMAC ARJ21 jet. The airline is trialling the ARJ for COMAC to identify and fix structural and operational deficiencies of the jet before it is delivered to other airline and lessor customers.
The ARJ21-700 seats 78 passengers in a two-class configuration or 90 passengers in an all-economy class setup. It is powered by General Electric CF34-10A engines. The airline operates five ARJ21s, four A319s and 28 A320s.
