HNA Group co-chairman’s accidental death while holidaying in France

Co-founder and co-chairman of China’s HNA Group, Wang Jian, aged 57, died in Provence on Tuesday after falling off a wall while taking photographs. Read More » French police said there was no suspicion of foul play.

“HNA Group extends its deepest condolences to Mr. Wang's family and many friends. Together, we mourn the loss of an exceptionally gifted leader and role model whose vision and values will continue to be a beacon for all who had the good fortune to know him, as well as for the many others whose lives he touched through his work and philanthropy,” HNA co-founder and co-chairman, Chen Feng, said on Wednesday.

Wang Jian and Chen Feng established Hainan Airlines in 1989 and later, in 2000, built the HNA Group conglomerate. HNA controls more than ten Mainland Chinese and Hong Kong carriers. Wang was the instigator of the group’s recent global spending that is now being reversed as the group raises funds to pay down loans due.
