July 13th 2018
Here is a rather exotic story. Read More » Tanzanian national carrier, Air Tanzania, has taken delivery of a B787-8 Dreamliner and plans to launch intercontinental flights to Mumbai, Bangkok and Guangzhou with its largest aircraft type from September.
The addition of the widebody B787 is a significant milestone for the airline, considering its current fleet is limited to Bombardier Q300 and Q400 turboprop aircraft.
Air Tanzania also has two A220-300s on order, due in Dar es Salaam in November.
All new aircraft operated by the Air Tanzania are owned by the Government Flight Agency which then leases them to the airline.
Speaking to local media, Air Tanzania commercial and business development director, Patrick Ndekana, said the carrier would deploy the Dreamliner on a new thrice-weekly Dar es Salaam-Mumbai route “from September”; no launch dates have been indicated for Bangkok and Guangzhou.
The airline’s B787-8 is powered by Rolls-Royce TRENT 1000 TEN engines. Air Tanzania has fitted the aircraft with 24 lie-flat business class seats in a 2-2-2 configuration and 238 economy class seats in a 3-3-3 layout.
