Biman Bangladesh accepts first B787-8

On Sunday Biman Bangladesh Airlines this week received the first of four on-order B787-8s. Read More » The state-controlled carrier will operate the B787 on crew familiarization flights from its Dhaka base to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore on September 1. From October, Biman will launch services four times a week to Doha and thrice-weekly to Muscat from Dhaka.

The next B787 is due to arrive at Biman in November with the remaining two planes scheduled for delivery in October and November next year. Biman is configuring the B787s with 24 business class and 247 economy class seats. The carrier has a fleet of four B737-800s and five B777s.

Biman faces stiff competition from Middle Eastern and privately-held local Bangladeshi carriers. Biman’s long-haul network includes London Heathrow, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Riyadh.
