Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) will suspend some international routes and reduce frequency on other services in the second half of fiscal year 2018 as its Rolls-Royce Trent 1000-powered B787 fleet continue to undergo safety inspections and engine replacements. Read More »

“ANA considered factors such as the impact of the required Rolls Royce engine inspections and determined the optimum allocation of its resources for the second half of FY2018. Safety is always our top priority and we will continuously work closely with Rolls Royce with the aim to resolve the situation,” the Star Alliance member said this week.

Specifically, ANA will suspend Nagoya-Shanghai and Osaka-Hong Kong from October 28, while Narita-Los Angeles will be reduced from twice-daily to daily and Narita-Chengdu will be cut from daily to four-weekly. In addition, aircraft changes will be made on several other international routes, including Narita-Beijing, which will be downgraded from a widebody B787 to a single-aisle A320neo.

The Japanese carrier said international capacity, measured in ASKs, will be 4% lower than previously planned for the six months to March 30, while domestic capacity will be up 1% year-on-year.

ANA said it would continue introducing the A320neo on “international short-distance routes”, including flights to China. “In addition to robust business demand, we aim to capture strong demand for visits from China and other Asian countries and strengthen yield management,” the airline said.

ANA said it would begin accepting its A380s and B787-10s “in early FY2019”. The carrier has three A380s and three B787-10s on order.
