China Southern accepts three class B787-9s

Asia’s largest carrier, China Southern Airlines, has taken delivery of its sixth B787-9 Dreamliner. Read More » While previous -9 deliveries were configured with business and economy class seating only, this latest Dreamliner and the following seven that are scheduled to join the airline’s fleet will feature premium economy class cabins. The final six jets on order will be in a two-class layout.

China Southern has 12 B787-9s on direct order from Boeing and is leasing the eight additional aircraft from AerCap, Air Lease Corporation and BOC Aviation.

The carrier’s -9 fleet has been performing domestic crew familiarization services since first delivery in May with the majority of the flights operating from Guangzhou to Beijing and Shanghai.

The SkyTeam carrier’s B787s are powered by General Electric GEnx-1B engines. In addition to the 20 -9s on order, the airline has an active fleet of ten B787-8s.
