Hong Kong Airlines cuts sole European route

Hong Kong Airlines launched the route to coincide with the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and was hoping the route would generate enough loads and revenue to sustain a year-round service. Evidently, that was not the case.
Hong Kong Airlines already attempted a Moscow route from 2010 to 2012, to Sheremetyevo Airport. Cathay Pacific Airways terminated its Moscow service, to Domodedovo Airport, in June 2015.
Following Hong Kong Airlines’ withdrawal, Aeroflot will once again hold a monopoly on Hong Kong-Moscow. The Russsian flag carrier flies B777-300ERs daily to Sheremetyevo.
