Asked about Scoot’s long-haul fleet plans, Lee said: “We have catered to our 787 growth in the latest SIA 787-10 order.” SIA Group has placed orders for 49 B787-10s. Lee said the airline’s contracts with Boeing allowed SIA to downgrade the order to the smaller -8 and -9 variants.
Scoot operates 10 B787-8s and 8 B787-9s. The airline has two additional -9s on firm order, but remains unclear how many B787-10s Scoot will source from SIA’s order book.
The SIA Group LCC performed its maiden A320neo revenue flight this week, to Bangkok.Other Scoot A320neo destinations will be Hong Kong, Macau, Taipei and Tiruchirappalli, the Scoot CEO said.
The budget airline received the first of 39 on-order A320neo aircraft on October 8. Scoot is fitting the neo jets with 186 seats in a single-class configuration.
Lee said there was a significant A320neo production backlog and that the LCC would only be able to receive approximately three A320neo a year for the next three years. Nevertheless, the airline’s plan to have 70 aircraft in its fleet by 2022 has not changed.
To compensate for the capacity shortfall, Scoot will add sister carrier SilkAir’s B737-800s to its fleet from April. It is replacing its entire fleet of 17 B737-800s with B737 MAX 8s.In May, SIA announced the SilkAir fleet would undergo a major product upgrade from 2020 before merging with mainline SIA.
