Singapore Airlines latest Asia-Pacific carrier to launch to Seattle

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has set its sights on Seattle, a destination that Cathay Pacific Airway ad Japan Airlines intend to add to their networks. Read More » On Thursday, SIA said it would begin a three times a week Singapore-Seattle A350-900 route in September next year and that the service would be increased to four a week “in October”. Seattle will become the sixth U.S. city in SIA’s route network, complementing the airline’s flights to Newark, New York, Houston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

SIA will use an A350-900 on the Seattle route fitted with 42 business class, 24 premium economy and 187 economy class seats.

“Our new non-stop flights to Seattle are another demonstration of our commitment to expanding our operations in the important U.S. market and growing our network reach. The new services will strengthen the Singapore hub by providing customers with faster and more convenient connectivity from key markets such as Southeast Asia, South Asia and Australasia to North America,” said SIA CEO, Goh Choon Phong.

Seattle is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., with a strong and diverse economy. It is home to the headquarters of a large number of major U.S. corporations and is a popular venue for start-up businesses. Known as the “Emerald City”, Seattle is a popular tourist destination.

SIA will operate 53 flights a week to the U.S. by December 2018, including 27 non-stop Singapore-U.S. services. With the introduction of the Seattle flights next year, its U.S. frequency will increase to 57 flights a week.

In September, Cathay Pacific revealed plans for a four a week A350-900 Hong Kong- Seattle route from March 31 next year. A few days later, oneworld alliance fellow, Japan Airlines, announced daily Narita-Seattle B787-8 flights, also from March 31. The Japanese airline will code share with Alaska Airlines out of Seattle.
