IATA forecasts a US$1.7 billion decline to $6 billion in the region. Read More »
In his June 2 keynote address at the IATA AGM and World Air Transport Summit in Seoul, the association’s director general and CEO, Alexandre de Juniac, said the region’s airlines would report a collective profit of $6 billion for 2019, compared with $7.7 billion last year.
Net profit per passenger for the current 12 months was estimated at $3.51 per passenger, representing a net margin of 2.3%, IATA said.
“The region is showing a very diverse performance,’’ de Juniac said. “Accounting for about 40% of global air cargo traffic makes the region most exposed to weakness in world trade, and that, combined with higher fuel costs, is squeezing the region’s profits.”
