CODE SHARES: American Airlines' (AA) code will be carried on four Cathay Dragon routes, to Dhaka, Chiang Mai, Da Nang and Phuket. Read More » It is the first time American Airlines has code shares on any airline to those four destinations.
AA also is code sharing from Hong Kong to Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Hanoi on Cathay Dragon.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Alaska Airlines will extend their code share service from September for SIA operated by Alaska Airlines from Seattle to Anchorage, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, O’Hare, Dallas Fort Worth, Denver, El Paso, Eugene, Honolulu and Kahului in the U.S. and to Calgary, Edmonton and Kelowna in Canada.
AIRLINES: Vietnamese realty and retail conglomerate, Vingroup, will launch the country’s fifth airline, Vinpearl Air, with start-up capital of US$55.9 million.
ROUTES: Air India has cancelled all fifth freedom rights beyond Hong Kong from mid-September. Cancelled services will be Hong Kong-Osaka Kansai and Hong Kong-Seoul Incheon. Delhi-Seoul will become a non-stop flight and a new non-stop service will commence between Mumbai and Hong Kong.
Asiana Airlines will increase Seoul Incheon-Istanbul. This month China Eastern Airlines will increase its Thailand network with three a week charters from Xinhou Wutaishan to Bangkok and a scheduled daily service between Xi’an and Phuket with A320s. China Southern Airlines is commencing Shanghai Pudong-Bangkok four times a week late this month and Changsa-Nagoya twice weekly on August 1. Finnair intends to fly Helsinki-Busan, its second South Korean destination after Seoul, three times a week from next March with A350s. SpiceJet will expand Mumbai-Dubai to double daily from August 3 with 737s.
