Singapore Airlines (SIA) expects available seat kilometres (ASK) in April to exceed 50% of levels flown pre-pandemic as its Vaccinated Travel Lane network expands "in the coming weeks" to 66 destinations in 27 countries. Read More » The airline group's monthly traffic report shows ASK were 44% of pre-COVID-19 levels in February, down from 46% in January. Capacity will increase to 57% of pre-pandemic numbers by April, based on the company’s published schedule. Previously, SIA forecast capacity would be 51% of pre-COVID-19 levels in March. SIA group carriers, Singapore Airlines and Scoot, flew 544,600 passengers in February, up 1.8% month-on-month from 535,200 passengers flown by the two airlines in January.

In a separate update, SIA said demand for air cargo was expected to ease in the three months to March 31, following a record peak period in the quarter to December 31. "This is in line with seasonal fluctuations and the traditional slowdown in exports during the Lunar New Year holiday period," SIA said in a slide presentation. "Nonetheless, both air and sea freight capacities are predicted to remain tight during the quarter, supporting loads and yields."
