Vistara and part-owner, Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced a codeshare before Vistara’s inaugural flight to Singapore, which was its international debut. Further international expansion is coming quickly with plans to launch Mumbai-Dubai on August 21 and Bangkok-Delhi flights on August 27. Kathmandu service is also expected.

Vistara and SIA, including SilkAir, will codeshare on India-Singapore flights as well as beyond services. SIA and SilkAir will add nine more domestic codeshares on Vistara, giving SIA and SilkAir codeshare access to more than 20 Indian cities. Vistara will codeshare on 40 cities in the SIA and SilkAir network. Codeshares will cover points in Asia, Oceania and the United States, Vistara said. The codeshare is subject to regulatory approval and will be implemented gradually. At press time, the international codeshares did not appear in sample bookings on each airline’s website.

“It helps Vistara get closer to its vision of becoming a global brand,” Vistara chief strategy officer, Vinod Kannan, said. Vistara told media in Singapore that it will receive its first 787 in February 2020.

This partnership is the first time Vistara is codesharing on an international flight. Foreign airlines, including Japan Airlines and United Airlines, codeshare on Vistara, but Vistara has not placed its code on foreign airlines.
