On Monday, Japan Airlines denied it was interested in investing in Malaysia Airlines (MAS), Malaysia’s Star news platform said. Qatar Airways also has said it would not be bidding for MAS. Late last month, The Edge reported Qatar Airways, China Southern Airlines (CSA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) were three of the four bidders the government had shortlisted for investment in MAS. The Edge speculated the fourth bidder was a domestic consortium.
The Star online said JAL was not planning to hold equity in MAS. Instead, it was waiting for approval for a tie-up with MAS, a JAL spokesman said on October 28. CSA has not commented on the report. The Malaysian government said it expected to select a bidder by early 2020.
