Organisers of the Singapore Airshow said this week there will be "enhanced precautionary measures" for the biennial event in response to the novel coronavirus outbreak. Read More » The airshow will take place from February 11 to 16 at the Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC).
A statement on the Singapore Airshow website dated February 4 said the enhanced precautionary measures had been introduced to "safeguard the well-being and safety of all attendees".
"Experia Events will implement additional temperature screening at access points at Singapore Expo and CEC," the statement said.
It noted there would be enhanced cleaning and refuse management to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, including the use of hand sanitisers. Doctors and medical staff would also be on site to offer assistance to visitors who were feeling unwell.
This was consistent with measures required under Singapore's DORSCON (Disease Outbreak Response System Condition) yellow level. "The health and well-being of our attendees is of utmost priority," the statement said.
"Alongside these additional measures, Experia Events remains ready and prepared to implement further enhanced measures as required by the authorities and will be providing further periodic updates leading up to the Singapore Airshow 2020."
The Reuters news agency reported on February 3 a number of aerospace companies, including business jet manufacturers, Gulfstream and Textron, had cancelled their attendance at this year's event because of the novel coronavirus.
Singapore recently announced it would not allow any foreign national, regardless of nationality, entry into the country if they had been to China in the previous 14 days.
The South Korean air force's Black Eagles aerobatic team also had announced it would not be part of the flying display. The group had been featured on the flying program in previous events.
In general, it is expected the 2020 signature airshow will be quiet compared with previous years.
