The airline’s staff must take leave from tomorrow (April 4) to May 31 “to prevent the further spread of COVID-19 based on the social distancing approach”. THAI’s overseas offices are to temporarily close. “THAI will resume full services as soon as the situation improves,” the airline said in an April 2 statement.
Thailand’s finance permanent secretary, Prasong Poontaneat, told The Bangkok Post his staff and also teams at the transport ministry, will work together to find the best way to keep THAI flying.
He said the ministries were well aware of the extent of the problems THAI faced, which stemmed from its financial crisis and had been aggravated by the COVID-19 outbreak. The finance ministry was ready to help rescue THAI and to see through its recovery as soon as possible, the newspaper reported.
“We must do our homework carefully before we decide on the measures,” he said.
