Korean Air schedules 100% merger with Asiana Airlines for 2024

Korean Air (KAL) has pushed back the completion of its proposed takeover and merger with local rival, Asiana Airlines, to 2024, The Korea Times has reported, citing the office of Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) representative, Park Yong-jin, as its source. Read More » The DPK lawmaker said KAL's post-merger integration plan, submitted to the Korea Development Bank, revealed it intended to acquire Asiana by 2022 and fully merge the two airlines by 2024. The report said the new timeline – KAL had hoped to have the deal completed by next year – reflected the need to obtain approval of the merger from antitrust bodies in eight jurisdictions.
