Boeing scores big in China with B737 MAX deal

Insiders report that China has made its first commitment to the B737 MAX with Mainland aviation authorities reported to have signed up for more than 200 of the MAX aircraft type, an upgraded version of the single aisle popular B737. At press time, a Reuters news report said neither Boeing nor China Aviation Supplies – the clearing house for airplane purchases before they are allocated to individual airlines – would confirm the order. Mainland Chinese airlines and aircraft lessor companies are said to be awaiting approval of their fleet plans from the relevant central government agencies. In Boeing’s most recent global fleet forecast, it said China would need 3,900 single aisle airliners in the next two decades. The MAX, which has improved fuel efficiency compared with its parent model, competes in the market with the A320neo, an upgraded variant of the single aisle A320. Airbus reported in September that China had ordered 100 A320neos, with 22 destined for lessors and 60 of the aircraft type bound for flag carrier, Air China in Beijing.
