Passenger numbers were down 57%, to 9.5 million, from 22.2 million in the same months a year ago. AirAsia Thailand was not planning to accept new aircraft in 2021 and expected to reduce its fleet due to "retirement and reallocation within the AirAsia Group". The LCC plans to operate a full schedule from its Bangkok hub from next month and operate a domestic schedule across Thailand from April as travel restrictions are relaxed in Thailand. "We are very pleased with the close cooperation of all parties and the improving situation in major tourism cities such as Chiang Mai, Nan, Nakhon Panom, Udon Thani, Krabi and Phuket, which have lifted their 14-day quarantine requirement," AirAsia Thailand CEO, Santisuk Klongchaiya, said. “The positive sign, coupled with growing confidence in travel among the public has prompted Thai AirAsia to reintroduce flights."
