Australia’s Regional Express defies industry trends with 43% profit jump

Australia's Regional Express (Rex) has reported net profit of A$9.9 million (US$7.7 million) for the six months to December 31, 2020, up 43.4% from A$6.9 million in the same period in 2019. Read More » However, total revenue declined 24.7%, to A$125.1 million, Rex said in a regulatory filing to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on Friday. Rex said it would have had to shut 90% of its network without Australian government support. Rex commenced 737-800 operations today with its inaugural Melbourne-Sydney route and will expand its network to Queensland and South Australia later in the month.
