China Eastern Airlines confirmed as C919 launch customer

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has formally signed a purchase contract for five Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd (COMAC) C919 narrow-bodies. Read More » COMAC said CEA would be the launch customer of the C919. The program is in flight testing phase with certification and first delivery expected by year-end. The CEA C919s will be based in Shanghai. Shanghai’s CEA signed a Letter of Intent for 20 C919s in 2010. It had previously said its subsidiary, OTT Airlines, would operate the C919. The COMAC aircraft will compete for customers in the same sector as the A320 and 737 aircraft families.
