India announces “in-principle” approval for 21 new airports

India's Minister for Civil Aviation, Hardeep Singh Puri, said on Twitter yesterday the government had granted "in-principle" approval for the development of 21 green field airports across the country. Read More » India ranked fourth in the global ranking of air connectivity, the minister said, and added the Airports Authority India (AAI) had "successfully started" the process of leasing six airports under a public-private partnership. "India’s connections to [the Asia-Pacific] have grown the fastest in the last five years. This significant connectivity growth was driven by several factors, including demographics, domestic market demand [and] policy environment," Puri said.
