Australia extends international travel ban to June due to “highly transmissible variants”

The Australian government yesterday extended the country's international travel ban, known locally as the human biosecurity emergency period, for another three months to June 17. Read More » Minister for Health and Aged Care, Greg Hunt, said the COVID-19 situation overseas continued to pose an "unacceptable public health risk to Australia, including the emergence of more highly transmissible variants", according to medical advice. "The extension of the emergency period for another three months is about mitigating that risk for everyone’s health and safety," he said. The overseas travel ban has been in place since March 2020.
