China Airlines selects insider Kao Shing-Hwang as president

Taiwan's China Airlines (CAL) said in a regulatory filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) yesterday Kao Shing-Hwang had been promoted to president, effective immediately. Read More » Kao, whose working life at CAL spans more than three decades, began his career at the flag carrier as a flight attendant. In the following decades he moved to the cockpit as a first officer, was promoted to chief pilot, followd by his appointment as vice president of flight operations and more recently, senior vice president. Hsieh Su-Chien, who has held the dual roles of CAL president and chairman while a search was conducted for new leadership at the airline, will remain chairman of the airline group.
In a separate TWSE filing, CAL reported a net profit of TW$140 million (US$4.9 million) for the 12 months to December 31, 2020, up from a net loss of TW$1.2 billion 12 months earlier. Operating revenue declined 21%, to TW$115.3 billion.
