Australia’s competition authority says yes to Virgin Australia/Alliance Airlines corporate liaison

Australia's competition regulator has approved Virgin Australia's (VA) partnership with Alliance Airlines, allowing the pair to work together on 41 regional and two short-haul international routes in areas such as capacity, flight schedules and pricing. Read More » Late last week, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued a final determination that approved the tie-up until March 31, 2023.
"The ACCC considers these arrangements are likely to result in a public benefit by promoting competition on certain regional and short-haul international routes," the ACCC said. VA general manager of network and alliances, Jim Fuoco, said the partnership would allow the airline to look at "new ways to bring more competition on regional routes" as the domestic travel market recovers from the pandemic.
