Cathay Pacific launch Asian customer for B777X

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways has joined the big three Middle East carriers and Lufthansa as a customer of Boeing’s 777-9X. It placed a Christmas order for 21 of the aircraft, at a list value of US$7.5 billion, on December 20. Scheduled for delivery from 2021-2024, the airliners will be powered by GE’s 9X engines. Cathay Pacific orders big at Boeing

Cathay Pacific chief executive, John Slosar, said the aircraft would be used on long-haul destinations to Europe and the U.S., “particularly on routes where we carry high volumes of passengers and cargo each day”. The carrier added to the seasonal tidings for Boeing when it announced, at the turn of the year, that it would purchase another three B777-300ERs and one more B747-8 freighter, with all four aircraft to be powered by GE engines. Cathay said it will accept delivery of 93 aircraft in the next decade, at an aggregate list price of US$222 billion for the new planes.
