Star Alliance partners, Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Air New Zealand (Air NZ), have expanded their relationship with an agreement that will allow both carriers to increase services between Auckland and Singapore. Read More » Subject to regulatory approval, the alliance is forecast to increase capacity between the two countries by 30%. The airlines said they had agreed that SIA would operate daily A380 flights to Auckland. In exchange, Air NZ would launch services between Auckland and Singapore with newly refitted B777-200ERs. The new scheduling would gradually absorb the traffic from SIA’s B777-300ERs flying the route. Air NZ would top up the service with two flights on its refitted Boeing airplanes to bring schedules to daily frequencies. Air New Zealand ceased operations to Singapore in 2006. The new alliance, with plans for flights to commence in December, would return the Auckland-based airline’s code to SIA’s network for the first time since 2007.
