Airports Council International boss forecasts “uneven” air travel recovery from COVID-19

Airports Council International (ACI) World director general, Luis Felipe de Oliveira, has told the World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit the recovery in air travel was expected to occur in phases and likely to be uneven in different markets. ACI figures published recently showed China’s Guangzhou was the world's busiest airport in calendar 2020, with 43.8 million passengers, followed by Atlanta, Georgia at 42.9 million. Passenger numbers at Guangzhou and Atlanta declined by 40.4% and 61.2%, respectively, in 2020, from 73.4 million and 110.5 million in 2019, ACI figures showed. There were seven China airports in the 2020 top 10, with Guangzhou followed by Chengdu (3), Shenzhen (5), Beijing (6), Kunming (8), Shanghai Hongqiao (9) and Xian (10).
