Japan Airlines to expand equity in Mainland controlled Spring Airlines Japan

Japan Airlines (JAL) plans to lift its equity in LCC, Spring Airlines Japan, from 5% to a majority holding, local media reports, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter. Read More » The report said JAL's increase in equity in the carrier was part of efforts to benefit from the growth in air travel between China and Japan beyond the coronavirus pandemic. Spring Airlines Japan, which began flying in 2014, is a subsidiary of China's Spring Airlines. More details of JAL’s plans for the LCC are expected to be revealed when the airline releases its fiscal year results, to March 31, 2021, early next month. In addition to Spring Airlines Japan, JAL's airline portfolio includes Jetstar Japan, in partnership with Australia's Qantas Group, ZIPAir Tokyo and regional affiliates.
