China Southern Airlines forecasts “huge uncertainties” ahead after reporting reduced losses for first quarter

China Southern Airlines (CSA) warned of "huge uncertainties" ahead when it reported a net loss, although narrowed, of four billion yuan (US$618 million) for the three months to March 31. Read More » The results bettered a net loss of 5.3 billion yuan in the same months in 2020. Revenue was up 0.5%, to 21.3 billion yuan, CSA said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Domestic aviation demand in China continued to improve in the first quarter as the COVID-19 vaccine rollout accelerated, CSA said, but international demand was still at a low level. "In view of the continuing impact of the pandemic on the air transport industry and the uncertainty of the pandemic trend, it is expected the operating results of the group still will be adversely affected in the first half of 2021. There are huge uncertainties," CSA said.
