CEA announces US$588 million quarterly loss; says COVID-19 situation still severe

China Eastern Airlines (CEA) has posted a net loss of 3.8 billion yuan (US$588 million) for the three months to last March 31, a slight improvement from a net loss of 3.9 billion yuan a year earlier. Read More » Revenue declined 13.3%, to 13.4 billion yuan, CEA informed the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Passengers were more willing to travel domestically, but the global COVID-19 situation was "still severe" and international volumes remained low, it said. "There remains great complexity and uncertainty about the global situation of COVID-19. It is expected the operating results of the company in the first half of 2021 still may be adversely affected by COVID-19," the Shanghai-headquartered airline group said.
