Asiana Airlines narrows first quarter loss to US$204 million

Asiana Airlines has reported a net loss of 230.4 billion won (US$204 million) for the three months to March 31, 2021, an improvement from a net loss of 549 billion won a year ago. Reduced passenger revenue, due to less international flying, was offset by growth in the cargo business, where sales rose 83% year-on-year to 610.5 billion won. The Star Alliance member has embraced new revenue opportunities including charter services and sightseeing flights. Asiana, which is proceeding through acquisition by Korean Air, reported an operating loss of 11.2 billion won for the month, compared with an operating loss of 2.1 trillion won in the same quarter a year ago.
