Air New Zealand reports big jump in trans-Tasman passengers in April

Air New Zealand's (Air NZ) monthly traffic report showed the airline flew 51,000 passengers on its trans-Tasman-Pacific network in April, a big increase from 11,000 in March, with the start of two-way quarantine free travel between Australia and New Zealand fuelling demand for the month. Read More » Despite the hefty growth, the April 2021 figures were 83.8% below the 315,000 passengers the Star Alliance member carried on its trans-Tasman-Pacific network in pre-COVID-19 April 2019. Air NZ said it transported 811,000 passengers across its domestic network for the month, the same number as March. While the April passenger load factor was a substantial improvement over the 9,000 domestic passengers the carrier flew in the same month in 2020, it was 13.8% lower than the pre-pandemic numbers of 941,000 in April two years ago.
