IATA calls on G7 leaders to "take leadership" on borders

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has called on the Group of Seven (G7) nations to "take leadership" by agreeing to the use of data collected since the start of COVID-19 to drive recovery and restore freedom to travel for tested or vaccinated people. Read More » The association also has called for the upcoming meeting, which will be held in Cornwall in the UK, to be quarantine free. "COVID-19 is something we need to learn to manage, like we do other risks to health," IATA director general and CEO, Willie Walsh, said. "There is no completely risk-free protocol. Vaccination will play a big role. And the data we have tells us screening and testing protocols can make travel safely accessible for all." The airline lobby group said evidence showed COVID-19 vaccinations protected travellers from serious illness and death and carried a low risk of introducing the virus into destination countries.
