Asia-Pacific air cargo demand stays above pre-COVID-19 levels reports IATA

Asia-Pacific carriers recorded 5.4% growth in cargo tonne kilometres (CTK), a measure of demand, in April 2021, compared with pre-COVID-19 levels in April 2019, overnight figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported. Read More » Capacity, or available cargo tonne kilometres (ACTK), was down 13.7% for the month, compared with the same month in 2019, but cargo load factor was 11.5 percentage points higher, at 63.3%. At a global level, cargo volumes "continued to trend upwards at a strong pace", with CTKs up 12% in April, IATA said. “Air cargo continues to be the good news story for the air transport sector," IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. "Some regions are outperforming the global trend, most notably carriers in North America, the Middle East and Africa. Strong air cargo performance, however, is not universal. The recovery for carriers in Latin America, for example, is stalled."
