Jetstar Asia A320s redeployed to Australia
June 17th 2021
LCC Jetstar will temporarily deploy three A320s from Singapore-based Jetstar Asia to Australia in response to strong leisure travel demand in the country and an expected slower recovery of international travel across Asia. Read More » The three Jetstar Asia A320s will join six A320s on loan to the LCC from Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Australia's five 787-8s, usually flown on international routes, but now serving the group’s Australian network. Jetstar's Australian domestic network is expected to reach 120% of pre-COVID-19 levels in the 2021-2020 fiscal year, the LCC's parent, Qantas Group, said. “Since travel demand started to recover about a year ago, our strategy has been to think creatively about using our fleet to add capacity back in, generate revenue and bring more of our people back to work," Qantas Group CEO, Alan Joyce, said. “It is why we have 787s flying domestically and A320s on loan from Jetstar airlines in Asia."
Qantas will expand its three-year wet lease contract with Alliance Aviation Services, struck earlier in 2021, to include options for 18 Embraer E190s, from the 14 options under the original deal. Alliance operated E190s, configured with 94 seats (10 business and 84 economy seats) will fly regional routes on Qantas's behalf. To date, Qantas is operating eight E190s under the agreement. Qantas Group owns 19.9% of Alliance Aviation Services.
