Air New Zealand (Air NZ) will begin a second cargo route between Australia and the U.S. from July 3 as part of Australia's International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) program. Read More » The Melbourne-Los Angeles cargo service will operate once a week with 787-9s until October 31, Air NZ said. The Star Alliance member flies Brisbane-Los Angeles under the IFAM program, which the Australian government established in April 2020 to help maintain cargo links with major export markets as flights declined from the pandemic. "We know there is some big cargo demand on this route as it gives Australian exporters and importers another option to move products to and from the U.S.," Air NZ general manager for cargo, Anna Palairet, said. "In fact, the first flight already is pre-sold."
