FAA letter to Boeing raised 777-9 certification issues, reports Seattle Times

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wrote to Boeing in May outlining issues related to the certification of the 777-9X wide-body, The Seattle Times newspaper reported on the weekend. Read More » In the letter, the FAA said the 777-9X was not ready for Type Inspection Authorisation (TIA), a determination that indicated the regulator expected the aircraft to meet certification requirements. The FAA said there was a lack of sufficient data related to the Common Core System (CCS) software and noted it could not confirm if the system was mature. The May 13 dated letter said certification of the 777-9X would realistically occur in mid-to-late 2023. Boeing has said it aimed to deliver the first 777-9 in late 2023.
