AirAsia Indonesia reports US$51.4 million quarterly loss

Joint venture PT AirAsia Indonesia has reported a net loss of 747.6 billion rupiah (US$51.4 million) for the three months to March 31, 2021, falling deeper into the red from a net loss of 345.5 billion rupiah in the 2020 corresponding quarter. The company said returning to normal operations after flights were suspended from April to mid-June in 2020 had been slow due to government travel restrictions, limits on passenger capacity due to social distancing rules, closed international borders and the need for COVID-19 testing. The LCC said "the group has obtained a financial support letter from AirAsia Group Berhad that stated it would continue to provide sufficient financial support for its operations". Nonetheless, there remained "uncertainties regarding the group’s ability to continue as a going concern, which highly depends on recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in conjunction with the actions undertaken by the government of Indonesia - including the successful implementation of the vaccination program", the Indonesian LCC said.
