South Korea's Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has extended its review of Korean Air's (KAL) proposed merger with Asiana Airlines, the Business Korea website has reported. Read More » It cited the FTC's extension to October of a contract with a consulting company that conducted economic analysis and research on the deal. The contract had been due to expire in June. "The extension of the review period is intended to take a closer look at concerns about higher fares and a reduction in consumer benefits due to a monopoly," the Business Korea report said. KAL, which hopes to complete its merger with Asiana by 2024, finalised its post-merger integration (PMI) plan last week.
