AirAsia Group boosts digital portfolio with Thailand acquisition

AirAsia Group said in a regulatory filing to the Bursa Malaysia it had reached a US$50 million agreement to buy the Thailand-based businesses of services and payments platform company Gojek. Read More » The company said the transaction would "rev up expansion" of the airasia Super App in Asean. “By taking on Gojek’s well-established Thai business, we will be able to turbo charge our ambitions in this space to become a leading Asean challenger super app," AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes, said. Gojek will receive a shareholding in the airasia Super App, the airline group said. The transaction was another development in the AirAsia Group’s strategy of developing a digital products and services arm.
