American Airlines switches Los Angeles-Sydney to cargo only

American Airlines (AA) has announced its flights from Los Angeles to Sydney will be cargo-only from July 12 due to the Australian government's decision to lower the weekly cap for international passenger arrivals into the country. From July 14, international arrivals per week into Australia will be halved to 3,035 passengers. Other airlines are expected to reduce their capacity into the country given the lower cap meant some flights would have to operate with no inbound passengers. The new limits have resulted in higher prices for flights to Australia, with some fares listed online at A$43,000 (US$31,904).
