Thailand suspends domestic flights to “dark red” zones

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has introduced new restrictions suspending domestic flights to or from areas with high rates of COVID-19 infections as part of efforts to limit travel around the country. Read More » The new restrictions, announced on the weekend, would come into effect from July 21 and applied to 13 “dark red” provinces, including Bangkok. Exceptions have been made for flights operating as part of the "Sandbox" program, cargo services and medical-related operations. For the allowed passenger routes, capacity has been capped at 50% of available seats, with passengers to be socially distanced on board. Airlines would also have to screen passengers with temperature checks. Bangkok Air said in a statement it would temporarily suspend Bangkok-Samui flights and extend the suspension of five routes that were due to resume on August 1. Its flights from Bangkok to Samui accommodating the transit and transfer of international passengers would continue, as would Samui-Phuket flights to support Thailand's Phuket Sandbox project.
